This book is a valuable asset teaching storytelling of the Bible beyond the basics. For those who misunderstand storytelling as Bible stories that you tell your children as they fall asleep, this book will open your eyes to understand that there are other cultures, oral cultures that would not receive the Bible and ultimately Jesus as their Savior without a storytelling method . The authors tell of experiences by individuals who received the gospel because of stories and it tells how Christian movements are beginning throughout the world using stories that people repeat. While there are other “Bible Storying” books (such as the one pictured below) by these authors, this particular one is aimed at the church planter. The book is largely divided into two parts, the first, containing four chapters, “Equipping the Storyer” including a section of having a vision of church planting, “Understanding the Setting” that speaks to worldviews and worship patterns, “Developing the Strategies” including initial and church planting strategies, and “Selecting the Stories” from evangelism to church plant.
The second section of the book is a list of helpful and practical appendixes explaining different worldviews, cultures and resources.
The following book Basic Bible Storying, as well as the book reviewed, are vital resources and highly recommended for Bible storying.
