This book is a collection of readings by some of today’s most reknown missionaries and scholars, organized into the major headings of Biblical, Historical, Cultural and Strategic. Contributors include, John R. Stott, John Piper, Don Richardson, Gregory Boyd, C. Peter Wagner, Paul Hiebert, J. Hudson Taylor and many, many more.
You will learn many things that you didn’t know that you didn’t know, things that will help you be ready to address different cultures and prepare you for making a best effort presentation of the gospel. Many universities use many of the readings in this book as supplements to their instruction in intercultural studies and missions. This is required reading for anyone going into the full time mission field. If I had only one book to recommend to a missionary entering the field today, this would be it.
There are several editions of this book, pictured is the 2008 edition.
About the editors: Ralph Winter, December 8, 1924 – May 20, 2009, was a Missiologist and professor, who helped launch TEE, Theological Education by Extension. In 2005 Time Magazine named him one of the 25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America. Billy Graham said, “Ralph Winter has not only helped promote evangelism among many mission boards around the world, but by his research, training and publishing he has accelerated world evangelization.”
Steven C. Hawthorne is a missionary with Waymakers, a mission and mobilization organization. He helps establish the Perspectives courses around the nation.
The Perspectives course is a short term missionary training course and can be found at http://www.perspectives.org. This course offers graduate and undergraduate credit for those interested and for approved universities.
