I am interrupting the regular schedule of posts (sorry) to announce a very important victory for life. Today, the Supreme Court published their opinion in the case known as Burwell, Secretary of Health and Human Services, et. al v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., et. al and cited as 573 U.S. ____ (2014) and what we who follow simply call Hobby Lobby vs. Obamacare. The Supreme Court ruled in a 5-4 decision that the government could not force or demand a for-profit company to provide health care insurance for methods of contraception when to do so would be against the religious beliefs of the owners of those companies. In short, Hobby Lobby and companies like them, do not have to provide abortion coverage, the “morning after” pill, and other such things that go against the religious belief of the owners. This is the largest and most impacting victory for pro-life supporters.
Keep in mind that, as always on this website, I am not stating this decision as a victory for Republican or a defeat for a Democrat political platform. Here, on this website, we are Christians first, determined to reflect a Christian worldview without regard to political agenda. A Christian worldview or a view of following Christ is one that reflects sacrifice for others as stated in Philippians 2, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is your in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men” 4-7. A Christian life is one of self-sacrifice. Abortion is the opposite. Abortion seeks what is convenient for the one seeking the abortion. Christ sacrificed his life for us and showed us that all life is important to the Creator-so important that God would send his Son to die to pay the price for our sin and restore us to an eternal relationship with God. And we should not forget that Jesus is part of that eternal life as well; he rose from the dead.
It is with these thoughts, the words of God, the life of Jesus that I can say that abortion is NOT part of a Christian worldview, a Christian ethic, a Christian belief. Therefore, it is with great joy that I am writing this important post that is celebrating life rescued, babies saved.
It is unfortunate that at the same time I must remind us all that abortion is still available, it is simply not being paid for by those who hold this same belief. And so, we must continue to pray that abortion will not be available at all and we must, as Christians, share the message of our Savior with others, that he forgives us if we had an abortion, that he forgives us for our sin that have separated us from God, that he provides for us, that he will help us with our children, that he has a plan of hope and a future for our babies, for our children, and for us. It is through his blood, his sacrifice, that we are reconciled to God the father. Thank you, Lord. And thank you for this victory.
